 About Me

Welcome to my sixth grade science class!  I look forward to working with your children this year and introducing them to many interesting things and fun activities.
This is my ninth year in Dillon District 3 but have taught for 16 years, most of which was science. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children, both  of which are at the Middle School with me. We live close enough to walk to the North Carolina State Line from our house, so we are usually late for anything that takes place in Latta.
I am looking forward to working with your children this year and look forward to a successful and productive year!!

 My Science Classes

        First Semester:

          Weather -
Students will spend the first 12 weeks of school learning how factors such as Air, Solar Energy, Wind, and the Water Cycle contribute to the weather patterns seen around the world. With each unit, we will focus on the use of weather instruments such as the aneroid and mercury barometers, sling psychrometers, thermometers, weather veins, anemometers, and triple beam balances.
          Energy
- Towards the end of the first semester, our focus will shift to energy resources and how energy transforms from one form to another.
We will also analyze how simple and complex machines decrease the force needed in order to perform work.

       Second Semester:
Animals - Students will compare structural differences between vertebrate and invertebrate animals. We will also look deeper into animal behaviors, whether learned or inherited.
During our animal study we will  work with Dichotomous Keys which are tools used to identify the specific Genus and Species name of an organism.
           Plants
-  Students will be able to compare the growth, responses,
